Nonviolent child soldiers should be granted citizenship under certain circumstances also, should not be punished. they should have a slight punishment because they didn't harm anyone. these children could be physically killed, taken away from home, sexually abused. meanwhile they have no education given to them. even though they aren't the ones fighting they still have some trauma (Children in conflict …show more content…
They can also come into to the country under certain circumstances. The children are given drugs and sent into battles. Their commanders tell them to go into to battle and kill everyone ( O’Neill 1). In some cases children are kidnapped out of their beds and they are taken from schools. Then they are brainwashed ( O’Neill 1). Another example is a 12 year old girl, Awil, has an fully automatic loaded rifle (Gettleman 1). Did you know that the guns could be bigger than the children ( O’Neill 1). The commanders say the children are “easy to deceive” and they listen to orders ( O'Neill 1). According to O’Neill, Angela (12yrs.) had to shoot one of her best friends ( O’Neill 1). She had no choice because she “had no choice” (O’Neill 1). These adults are teaching these innocent children horrible ways of life. It is possible that these children could have weapons and they could hurt fellow citizens. As Americans we should be willing to take chances and be the better people. To ensure safety these children will be monitored, go to rehab and before all of this they have to take a test to see if they can enter the country. These former soldiers should have to do community service as there punishment. They need to learn be an active and supporting member in the community. If they don't pass the test then they can apply at a later
