As stated in “Racial Desegregation” by Loretta Meeks, Wendell Meeks, and Claudia Warren, desegregation was granted though “the avenues of escape for White parents from enrolling their children in largely minority and poor schools have been identified as choice options” (page 90). The objective of education is being replaced with “wants” instead of “needs”. Going to school means learning new material and exploring the mind 's abilities, not deciding who the students befriend. Which goes to show that children aren 't born knowing what racism is, it is instead something that is taught. When the young students were presented with an image of two children playing on the swings and one of the two individuals was drawn on the floor, while the other plays normally, the African American children had a much more innocent mindset than those of the white. To further explain, the white students assumed that the child on the floor was pushed off by the African American child. On the other hand, the African American students came to the conclusion that there were friends who were because one of the children got hurt. In most videos, the white children explain that their parents wouldn’t like them hanging out with colored people because they are not the same colored skin tone, automatically making the children fear their parents reaction. Whereas, the parents of African American children don’t enforce those types of thoughts. In my perspective, I believe that those who struggle with racism are the most humble ones when they are conforted with it. For instance, those who struggle with money, know the value of a dollar better than those who hardly work for it. Racism is not different.
