After he decided this he worked hard on the ranch and exercised hard for a year. Kyle was finally recruited and enrolled in basic training in 1999 (Burling 25). Later dropped out of boot camp when there was an open position in BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL), which SEALS are required to take (Burling 25) After joining BUD/S Kyle passed Phase 1 of BUD/S which is physical conditioning (Burling 29) SEALS should be able to do 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups and 20 pull-ups in 2 minutes (Burling 25) After passing phase 1 Kyle had to go through a grueling process known as Hell Week (Burling 29) During Hell Week, SEALS are put through challenges that could last up to 24 hours. Kyle survived Hell Week and barely crossed the finish line. The next phase was phase 2 or the Combat Dive Phase (Burling 32) During this phase Kyle suffered an injury where too much pressure built up in his head, causing blood to start flowing out of his mouth, nose, eyes and ears. This injury was not that bad, but it caused him graduation to be delayed. Eventually Kyle passed phase 2 of BUD/S and moved on to the 3rd and longest phase that focussed on Land Warfare (Burling 32). After 9 more weeks of training Kyle graduated from BUD/S and officially became a US Navy SEAL (Burling 33) After a break Kyle was assigned to SEAL Team 3 and taken to combat (Burling 33) After returning for some time SEAL Team 3 in February 2002 got word that they were being deployed to Kuwait (Burling 38). Kyle and his fiancee decided to get married before he left so on March 16, 2002 they did in the Nevada mountains (Burling 40) Four days later, Chris Kyle with the rest of SEAL Team 3 was deployed to Kuwait (Burling 40).
