When I read Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, I discovered a valuable connection between man and nature, a connection that continues to impact my life today. While following Chris McCandless on his journey across Western America and Alaska, I found his transcendental views to be very inspiring. After reading that book, I try to immerse myself in nature as much as possible in an attempt to establish a spiritual connection with nature as Chris McCandless did. Here is an excerpt from my journal entry following one of my more meaningful trips into nature:
The silence cleared my mind. I did not think about my surroundings; instead, I only used my senses. I simply experienced nature; I did not analyze it as my mind would have done if it was active. My senses allowed me to capture every facet of the woods and take in the beauty of nature. The cold breeze stung my body like a bee. I did not feel warm or secure in the arms of mother nature. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the cold breeze because I felt like I was pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. …show more content…
Nature is both calming with its fresh air and vivid colors and unforgiving with its extreme weather and harsh environments. Immersing yourself amidst these two attributes of nature creates a rejuvenating experience that can help you connect with your individuality.
