Christine De Pizan Christine De Pizan was one of the most prestigious women and authors of her time. She did something that very few women did before her and none as successful as she. She was the first women in history to make a living solely off writing and only the second behind nuns to be able to write a book that would be published. While Christine De Pizan was alive she fought for women to have a greater role in society and she claimed and defended that they were just as skillful, intelligent, and had as much Military prowess as men, which we know is a fact today. While she was one of the most influential feminists of her time, she did not demand that women receive the same opportunity to education that men do. She is visited by three different ladies that say she needs to build a city for women. The three women represent Reason, Rectitude, and Justice. Each of the women had and important message to give Christine to benefit the city. Lady Reason emphasizes that the city can be built solely by the collective strength of all the women. Lady Rectitude then speaks to Christine and she praises women as a whole. She says how perfectly they fill their role in society and as family members, focusing in on how faithful daughters are and how loving mothers are. Lady Justice then talks about how women have had to give up their religion and were forced to worship gods they did not believe in. In the city, the women would be able to worship Jesus Christ, instead of other gods they don’t have faith in. In the City for women, the queen would be the Virgin Mary because she could watch over all of the women and protect them.
