Christmas In Jim Murphy's Book Truce

Although I have read books and watched movies about WWI, I still had a lot to learn about this war. I knew little things about this topic, such as the war stopped before Christmas and restarted after New Year’s day. But, I always wondered why there was a truce over Christmas and was eager to learn more. I also knew that the German army was the strongest army in Europe and wanted to learn more about what made them so strong.

After reading the book Truce by Jim Murphy I learned a lot more about WWI and truce that occurred over Christmas. The Germans started the war after sending a letter of requirements to Serbia. The Serbians accepted the requirements and responded to the letter, but the Germans didn’t read the response and attacked Serbia anyway. The rest of Europe also joined the war against the Germans. But the war lasted for four long years so it is not surprising that the soldiers decided to call a truce the first Christmas after the war started.
The Generals on both sides did not want them to have a truce, but soldiers did it anyway. In their celebration, they buried the dead together, Shared words, and sang songs. “All of the soldiers missed home, but still had a good time.” This means that they wanted to be with their families, but still wanted to enjoy christmas and New Year’s. This amount of niceness lasted until new years day.

The Germans had been leading the war for three and a half year’s, but the North Americans finally joined in. They brought bombs, skilled soldiers, and new artillery. After they joined in, they crushed the Germans. The Germans had left there backup soldiers so far back, so they suffered a terrible loss.
