From the assessment data collected Justin’s smoking habit has been identified as an area that he could benefit from having further education on. During the health history assessment Justin expressed that while in hospital he was smokefree but was concerned it wouldn’t last.
Burton (2013) expresses optimal health and well-being outcomes can be achieved with effective health promotion and education. The purpose of teaching Justin is to ensure he has as an understanding why he should quit smoking and how it would be beneficial for his health and to continue being smokefree after being discharged.
As acknowledged during the health history, Justin stated that he learns by someone showing him visual aids as well as someone explaining things to him, this is his preferred type of learning because he feels he retains more information faster and for longer this way.
