I was in med-surge today and I had a lot of experience and educational moments. I really enjoyed it. To start off my morning I got to go through the report. That was definitely an eye opener, because it goes so fast! Each patient the nurse I followed had I helped do the assessment so I got to hear the heart sounds, lung sounds, and bowel sounds in person and that was very neat. I had to deal with a post-op small bowel resection. Looking at her surgery sight was way cool and then also listening to the bowels. I got to see an RN take out a central line and of course she had to hold it for about 5-10 minutes. I also got to see a fellow student take out a Jackson-Pratt it was interesting to see how it came out. We received a patient later in the

My final day at the Wallace Thompson hospital was a great and memorialized day . I was able to interact and see with different procedures , and even look at some of the procedures I already seen, but with different patients so different outcomes was definitely a factor. I saw a possible gastrointestinal lymphoma , which was odd for myself considering the fact that I thought lymphoma was only considering the lymph nodes. I was also able to see an I&D of the perineal and groin area. That had to be the most disgusting yet intriguing to me.…

I have really enjoyed my ICU experiences. Something I like best about them, is that there is so much to learn. There is never a day when I wonder what I learned today; everyday I have a full list full of things. I also really like that you have less patients so you can take more time with each one. It feel more like nursing care, and less like checking the boxes.…

and I tried thickened juice that tasted really good and looked like Jell-O, we also tried thickened water, because of it looking like hand sanitizer I couldn’t drink it. My most favorite skill that I learned was the different type of lifts and how to use them, there were 2 lifts that were shown, the sit to stand lift and the manual patient lift. The sit to stand lift not only uses a machine to help the resident stand and sit, but the resident also helps, this benefits them physiologically and…

Afterwards, we did a reach exercise, where the patient had to reach and take the cones away from Mrs. Wallace and give them to me. I observed another patient play with moldable putty that had tiny objects in it. They had to use their fingers and trying to pull the objects out to increase strength in their hands and fingers. I got to observe Mrs. Wallace help a patient with her shower, which was neat, because I never thought that it would be a part of what an OTA performs. I had a great learning experience at Crystal Oaks and it really showed me, that I really want to be an OTA!…

The experience gave me the opportunity to work in a clinic and observe what the day-to-day professional life of a doctor entails. I learned about the work involved before seeing a patient including checking for insurance eligibility and prescription use. I learned how to check patient 's vital signs and how to take notes during a medical appointment and upload those notes into patients ' health records. I was able to form strong bonds with the patients over the course of my internship which I particularly enjoyed. The clinic felt like a close community with all the interns, staff and Dr. Liu working closely together in order to provide care for the patients and getting to know them in the process.…

In the month of November, the support and service that I choose to reach out to was the “Therapy Dogs” which was taking place at Hedden Hall on November 29th (7pm-8pm). I was informed by this opportunity through my CA Adrianna Michell when I was telling her how stressed was feeling about school currently. During the conversation, she stated everything that I was currently feeling is normal. Furthermore, when she was in first year of undergraduate studies the service she had used to relax and forget about her worries was therapy dogs. Adrianna stated that I would highly benefit from this service.…

Thus far, I have learned many important aspects of becoming an effective therapist. One of the major parts of training involves evaluation and feedback from supervisors or peers. I think evaluations are an important part of training because it provides feedback to areas, which you are doing well in, and areas in which you will need improvement. I believe that without evaluations, we as therapist cannot grow into effective therapist. To date I cannot think of any job or career that does not use “end of the year evaluations”.…

Being a hands-on learner, I excelled the most in lab. I was always delighted to go in and learn how to do all the different procedures and acquire new skills that we would perform in the clinical setting. I enjoyed learning new techniques and figuring out the rationale as to why one may be better than the other. I also took pleasure in teaching and helping fellow students who were practicing their skills in the lab. Throughout my clinical experiences I was outgoing, friendly, curious, and always willing to help when I could.…

When the patient was in labor and began pushing, I aided in supporting one of her legs while the nurse supported the other. I think it was truly amazing to see a child being brought into the world. The postpartum care was also a teamwork. While my preceptor was getting the ice pack, I filled the peri-bottle with warm water and placed dry tower on the bathroom floor to prevent falls. I remembered from class lecture to check for clots in the urine because abnormal size (golf ball size) can be concerning.…

Since my first few weeks of outpatient therapy, I’ve heard that my diagnosis does not define me, that I am more than my diagnosis. While I understand that to a degree, I know that what I deal with is a large part of my current identity along with who I am as a person. My identity strongly revolves around it and I cannot pretend that it does not shape my life. In 8th grade I was put into an outpatient program at a local hospital for having suicidal thoughts.…

On Thursday, October 26th, it was very disappointed not being able to assist to my last rotation at First Choice. For these last two rotation it was a very enriching experience to work with patient at this location. It was nice to feel what it is like to see a patient in a real life setting, where you do not have to report to the instructor continuously, and fill out all the paper work we have to do as student at Lincoln College of New England. From this experience I take the importance of always reviewing the patient’s information before siting him/her on the chair, and verifying with front desk what procedure the patient is allow to have.…
