In his article “’Clock Boy’ and America’s Suicidal PC Tendencies”, Shapiro discusses his opinion on how the situation was handled. Ben’s biggest thought that he continues to bring up is the fact that all of these safety precautions would not have been taken if Ahmed Mohamed wasn’t Muslim. The decision to follow through with these safety procedures were based off of the Muslim terrorists in charge of 9/11, and the need to protect the country from further incidents. He also goes on to discuss how school systems are corrupt when it comes down to disciplinary actions due to potential threats. The punishments now come for much more innocent “threats” than they did before the attacks. Shapiro uses the examples of forming your fingers into the shape of a gun and chewing a pop tart into the shape of a firearm supporting how “…children across America have been suspended or even prosecuted for far less than bringing a device with bomb-like appearance to school.” ( Even though Shapiro had a different opinion on whether or not the procedures taken were appropriate or over-the-top, he does recognize the opposing side as well. Beyond Ahmed being scared, when asked for details about his clock, all he could say was “it’s just a clock” and “I don’t know it’s a clock”. The public was frustrated with the police because they were questioning Ahmed as if he committed murder, but if they would not have and it actually ended up being a lethal explosive, it would be their heads on the line especially if the bomb went off. Yes, they did prove him innocent and released him with no charges, but how can people be mad that the police questioned him? Even with the lack of information being given by Ahmed, the truth was still found and he was let go. People are always so ready to blame to police authority for things like this when in reality they were acting out of everyone’s best interest. The whole process of finding out what was going on would have been smoother if Ahmed explained it right
