Coach Amstutz Speech

Everyone goes through a period of time when growing up when they figure out how they are going to live their life. This period of my life began in middle school but I didn’t recognize it until I got to high school and played football for Luke Amstutz. I will be forever great for what he did to me that year, he played a huge role in how I became a man. Coach Amstutz had two really big rules for his football teams; the first one was be a man. I remember thinking my freshmen year, I don’t see how this makes you a man but looking now at it I know that it is most definitely what a man does. On Saturdays in film sessions after a big win or lose, you learn quickly to be accountable. Film never lies so if you try to lie about how you missed a block, ran the wrong route, went to the wrong gap; film was there and never lies about what happened. Most people in these sessions try to lie about what happened, but you can tell who the upper class men are because they don’t try to make an excuse about why that happened. …show more content…

A football field may be an exciting place where touchdowns are scored and games are won and plays are made, however from the eyes of a football player the field goes much deeper than that. As a former football player I can tell you that on that field, we are not a team, we are a family. Some of us hate each other and some of us are best friends, but when the game stands tall we are brothers. The movie that most accurately displays this brotherly bond regarding football players is Remember the Titans. When two schools integrated racially there was a great deal of conflict between the black and white students especially on the football team.…

Sports is a big aspect of high school life, especially the sport of football. The films The Blind Side, Remember the Titans, and Friday Night Lights, all revolve around the sport of football and how it manages to change the lives of the athletes. Among these films, the main themes I will focus on will be on the impact of being in a team and the influence an authority figure has on the athletes’ lives. I will begin with examining the theme of being a part of a sports team and how much growth it can have on an individual. At the beginning of the Blind Side, Michael Oher was extremely reserved and did not know how to play football.…

His motivational speech at Gettysburg also inspires harmony amongst the players. Second, the school and community must accept diversity. The football players stand up for each other both at home and in the community to make a positive example. This is demonstrated in a plethora of ways such as Coach Yoast giving up his hall of fame nomination for a fair game, Gerry choosing his values over his girlfriend, and by the boys breaking up racial tension fights at school.…
