Would anyone continue to play a sport even if they didn’t get paid? Many college athletes are in this situation. Recent studies show that in 2015, 25 of the richest college basketball teams generated a total revenue of 440 million dollars. Not a cent was given to the players, the ones who made the money. Normally, people who earn the money should receive some of it too. Three reasons why they should be paid are because they do not have any time for extra money, if a player gets injured, their scholarship is revoked, and the average player is worth more than double of what they are paid (scholarship). The only way they do get paid in is the scholarship, which then again barely covers the expenses. According to the sources “CNN Crossfire”, it states, “The average scholarship is worth 23 thousand dollars, yet the worth of the average college football player is worth 120 thousand dollars, an average basketball player’s worth is 265 thousand dollars.” Also, “ESPN Video” states, “In 2015 the 25 richest college basketball teams generated a total revenue of 440 million. No money was given to the players.” These sources prove that the average player is worth a lot more than what they are paid. Some people may say that colleges do not generate enough money to pay the students. According to the source “CNN Crossfire”, it states “23 out of 238 colleges in 2012 generated profit. If you pay one sports team, then you have to pay all of the sports teams.” However colleges do have the money. They have more than enough to give to other players. The coach receives a handsome salary, so some of that could go to the players, who actually need it. Colleges can spare some money to give to give to
