Ezekiel Elliott powered through the second half of last season, especially the final three games. The junior running back rambled over Wisconsin for 220 rushing yards in the Big 10 Championship Game, plowed through Alabama for 230 yards rushing in the national semifinal and bludgeoned Oregon for 246 yards in the National Championship game. Elliot is a Heisman candidate heading into this season, but it will be tough for him to take home the award because of the smorgasbord of talent on his team.
That plethora of playmakers includes Braxton Miller, who made the switch from quarterback to wide receiver this summer. Miller is one of the most dynamic players in college football, and he only enhances a Buckeyes offense that already has a cargo of dangerous weapons. With preeminent players like Joey Bosa, Adolphus Washington, Darron Lee, Joshua Perry, Raekwon McMillan, Eli Apple, Vonn Bell and Tyvis Powell returning on defense, the Buckeyes shouldn’t be too shabby on that side of the ball either.
Despite the fact that four key players will be suspended for Ohio State’s opener against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., the Buckeyes are favored to win every game they’ll play in this season. It will likely take an undefeated regular season to make the 2016 College Football Playoff, but if the Horned Frogs can navigate their way through a difficult schedule without dropping a contest, TCU will be amongst the top four teams vying for a national title. The Horned Frogs have a Heisman Trophy candidate returning at quarterback in Trevone Boykin, and a defense that should be as stout as any in the Big 12.
