He was meeting his father after three years of his parents being divorced. He was also glad to see his father. The character thought, “he was a big, good-looking man, and I was terribly happy to see him again.” The main character was glee to see his father again after some years. The quote relates because he did not see his father for a long time and so when he saw his father, his father was good-looking and was glad to him again. He had expected him to be handsome. During their date, his father was drunk and disrespectful to the waiters, and being mean to bartenders. After their reunion, the main character exchanged goodbyes and never saw his father again. “‘Goodbye, Daddy,’ I said and I went down the stairs and got my train, and that was the last time I saw my father.” After he got onto the train, he never saw his father again after the reunion.
