Being a problem solver means finding the resolution to anything that residents, friends, or even other RA’s may have. But being a problem solver does not always mean conflicts, it could also mean helping them solve problems with academics by giving them resources on campus such as the library, the writing center and tutoring center. If I can not find the resolution to any problem that is brought to my attention I can direct them to other resources or a higher authority that may be able to help them further. Being a community builder also comes with it’s fair share of problems, so finding ways to solve the problem brings the community closer. Being a policy enforcer is making it safe for students on campus, and communicate with your supervisor about any and all crisis that has occured, or any policy you have enforced. Being a crisis responder isn't always about a medical crisis it can be about a roommate crisis, family problems or someone having suicidal thought. As a RA I may come across situation where I may have to enforce policy. For example if a RA responds to a noise complaint that has turned into a party with underage drinking and notice someone is unconscious I would enforce policy, reach out to my superiors and call campus police.
