That was an episode from the Gospel of Matthew, which was the first book of the new testament. “David” in the other hand is a statue of the Biblical hero David. The keys represent forgiveness and sharing the word of god, and that is what would get people to heaven. The statue was placed in Florence around 1501 and 1504, and the painting in Rome around 1481 and 1482. The two works of art had to do with religion back then, they had a story that was and still is mind-blowing to many.
