Due to the Industrial Revolution, Europe became modernized and had a lot of advanced technology. This allowed them to conquer and imperialize lots of land, including Africa and China. The main reason why Africa and China fell so fast to European Imperialism was because both of them weren’t modernized and Europe had far more superior technology and weapons. This made it really easy for Europe to come in and easily take over China and Africa. Therefore, imperialism started as a result of the Industrial Revolution and there are many similarities and differences in the way China and Africa was imperialized and the influence it had on the two. They’re similar in the sense that Africa and China weren’t even considered in the discussion. Foreigners decided to just split up the two lands without even consulting with the native people. Another similarity is that Europeans wanted to imperialise the two for for Gold, God and Glory and justified their actions with Social Darwinism and White Man’s Burden. They wished to spread Christianity and wished to obtain natural resources from both Africa and China. They claimed that both of the two required the Europeans to “help” them. They saw themselves as more superior to both Africa and China and claimed that it was their duty to “help” them. However, there are a lot of differences too. One of them is, China modernized because of this and started to westernize but Africa didn’t. This is probably due to the fact that China was already kind of civilized unlike Africa which still had many tribes. Another difference is, China wasn’t completely controlled by foreign rule. All they had to do was open up and allow trade while for Africa, Europeans controlled everything from their government to their cultures and traditions.
