The early twentieth-century encapsulated the world as multiple wars broke out on a global level, leaving specific countries raveled and demolished. As these wars, both the Spanish-American War and the Great War, established two major countries as powerhouse leaders in an increasingly unstable era on an international level. The United States, as the most powerful of these two leading nations, developed certain responsibilities and obligations within the world, some of which remained neglected for decades to come. Due to their position of authority throughout the world, the United States retained a duty to mediate conflict between fellow nations as well as promote conflict avoidance and complete neutrality when intervening in foreign disputes.
