However, Schulman illustrates that the impact of the fathers beliefs, motivations and action will affect the child for the worse, Miller demonstrates that even when a father impacts a child with his beliefs, motivations and actions it can end badly for the father. The beliefs of Mr. Perry and Joe Keller are affecting and impacting Chris and Neil and the parent's negatively. Keller's beliefs revolves around his business and Mr. Perry's beliefs revolve around Neil's educations. Since Keller's believes that the ''American Dream" is his main goal in life, he only focuses on making money and a business for Chris, but Chris does not feel that the business is important. Perry's and Keller's motives were forced upon Chris and Neil causing a negative impact on them and the parent's for the worst. Keller's motives is to pass down the business to Chris"I want you to spread out, Chris, I want you to use what I made for you… I mean, with joy, Chris, without shame… with joy."(1.585). The business was so important, that he lost all his morality because he wanted to reach this goal, causing Chris to disagree with him. Chris does not want to keep the business due to his father motives and actions. Keller worked his entire life to complete his motive, and now that Chris disagree's and hates Keller, it has broken Keller. In similar fashion, Mr Perry's motives for Neil to become a doctor are strongly being forced upon Neil, causing him to be affected and pressured by his father. Neil is being forced by his father to study to become a doctor, but Neil has a passion for literature and drama that he is not able continue due to his father. Since Mr. Perry has put a border over Neil's life, he is not able to withstand the pain.
