This was a story written about a rich man who tried to do lavish things to gain the attention of a woman named Monna Giovanna. She did not find these things pleasing and didn’t even bother looking at Federigo. He then became poor and started living on the country side all alone. Shortly after, Monna became a window and moved to the countryside with her son. Her son befriends Federigo and becomes very fond of the man’s falcon. Over time the boy got very ill and asked his mother for one thing. He wanted Federigos falcon, one of the only things Federigo had left, but the woman knew she wasn’t in any position to ask such a big request. “...the love she bore her son persuaded her that she should make him happy…” (Boccaccio 174). Although the story is called Federigos Falcon, the real hero of the tale was Monna. She showed immense amounts of courage by asking a man she didn’t even care to look at for such a big favor. The writing piece used enjoyable characterization that illustrated Monna as having strong mother like qualities that were those of a hero. The story ended very ironically when Federigo unintentionally fed the bird to Monna. This caused Monna to fall in love with Federigo who made such a big sacrifice for her. William was a poor peasant competing in a jousting tournament pretending to be of noble birth. Being one of the best jousters in the completion, William had to fake his gentility to be able to stay in the competitions and win the heart of a beautiful princess named Jocelynn. The strongest attribute of his was in fact courage, to fight his way to the top. The knight was put through many trials, such as when his biggest competitor found out that he was in fact just a peasant. William decided to get imprisoned for fighting instead of running and hiding. The directors did a good job at basing the story on Romance, allowing us to see how William heroically fights to win over Joselyn although he is risking his own life. William successfully ends up changing his fate, winning the princess and getting dubbed nobility after his heroic struggle of
