Although Pocahontas was a film based on a multicultural love that was directed to children, Disney made several adjustments from the real story and created a new and unreal version of Pocahontas that was mainly based on a masculine perspective. This is one of the reasons why Pocahontas is one of the most controversial films that Disney had created. Equally important, in this version of Pocahontas, Disney portrays her as a beautiful heroine and a “cultural mediator”(Edwards 151) taking the most important role throughout the story. Therefore, Disney depicts Pocahontas as the “driving force of the movie” (Kilpatrick 3). Furthermore, the story of “La Malinche”(Zamora) and the film “The Searchers” by John Ford can both be compared to the story of…

In my government class, we talked about how the average voter forms his policy opinions from the cues of his political leaders. Using “heuristics”, or mental shortcuts, civilians will simply adopt the opinions of their political candidates about numerous complex policy issues so they don’t have to figure out how they truly feel as individuals. The characters in Harry Potter behave no differently, fully believing in the words of the Daily Prophet because the Ministry controls its publication. Therefore, people in the wizarding world cannot be blamed for trusting the Daily Prophet, despite its dubious reporting, because their complacency is so common in our own world, for good reason, that it would simply be hypocritical to think otherwise.…
