Viewpoints on Concealed Weapons on College Campuses There has been controversial debate on allowing students access to concealed weapons on college campuses, will it be safer or not. There’s three articles that talks about their viewpoints on concealed weapons and giving their opinions to why students should or should not be allowed to carry guns on college campuses. Dean Dickerson and University Chancellor Mcraven talk about the protection of students and the concerns of potentially increasing violence on college campuses, while Students for Concealed Carry on Campuses (SCCC) argues that carrying concealed guns can make college campuses safer. From the article “Students Should Not Be Allowed to Carry Guns on College Campuses,” author Dickerson viewpoints are not in favor of guns on campuses because of the…
Students Should be allowed to carry Guns on Campus In recent shootings, there was one on June 1st 2016 in Los Angeles, a gunman burst into the UCLA campus, shot and killed an instructor. Another recent shooting was on October 1st 2015 in Oregon, the gunman open fire in Umpqua Community College, killing nine and wounding seven others, afterwards he shot himself. Guns on campus should be allowed because for students to protect themselves and first responders may not be able to reach the attack in time.…
Campus Carry Law Many college students support the campus carry laws to be effective and preserve their safety; however the campus carry law can increase assaults within the campus, arguments and confrontations can become lethal, and when a student is under the influence, a weapon can be used incorrectly and harm the individuals that surround him. That is why the new campus carry law should be nullified because of the vulnerabilities it generates putting the students’ safety in jeopardy. The students throughout college campuses and universities, can encounter an assault with a gun force because carrying a gun in college campuses is legal now. Students are more vulnerable to undergo assaults by another student because they have the power to…
Introduction In the recent past, learning institutions have increasingly become crime scenes with dozens of students and professors dead and others wounded. This has sparked debate on whether concealed guns should be allowed at colleges or not. The current laws prohibits anyone to carry a gun in and around school premises but the proponents of the matter are calling for the legalization of concealed guns in schools as the first step in keeping campuses safe. They argue that this will give potential victims the ability to respond and defend themselves against criminals.…
The people that are for the right to have concealed handguns on campus argue many good points. They say that permitting guns on campuses would allow students to defend themselves from anything that will harm them, making people think…
In 2002, a man named Peter Odighizuwa went to The Appalachian School of Law with a handgun where he opened fire. Two students at the school ran to their vehicles where they personally owned handguns and ordered the shooter to drop his weapon. The shooter dropped his weapon and was arrested later by police. Also, there are many cons to allowing guns in schools and on campuses.…
Disaster on Campus “Ten people were killed when a gunman opened fire at Oregon's Umpqua Community College” (Ford, and Payne). This tragedy is just one of many unfortunate events involving guns on a college campus. Even though College Institutions are where students should feel safe, because of recent campus shootings there has been an active debate on passing the Campus Carry law. The continuing issue over campus shootings have caused many tragedies, there has been fifty-two shootings on school grounds this year and twenty-three college campus shootings in the United States (Sanburn).…
Gun Violence on campus has been a recurring issue in the past several years with several instances of the mass shooting like the ones in Arizona state university and on Virginia tech. “.Timothy Wheeler wrote a piece called “There 's a reason they choose schools” which was published On May 1,2007,in the issue of National Review. In this article,Wheeler talks about how there may need to be a need to allow guns on campus so we can better protect ourselves against shooters. Another piece used is the poster “Gone but not forgotten”published by Amy Dion at Northern Illinois university in the UCDA campus violence poster project.…
Most people would disagree that there is a need to allow guns on school campuses. According to Brady Center the author says “Rather than making anyone feel safer, allowing students to possess and use firearms on college campuses will likely breed fear and paranoia among fellow students since no one will know whether the other person can simply retrieve or pull out a gun if a dispute arises”. This quote shows that rather than making it safer for students, they would feel more at risk than before. Two students could be having an altercation and one of them could just pull out a firearm. Students would then have to always be on guard because they do not know what the other students ae capable of.…
Therefore, the law would not necessarily cause more shootings to occur as shooters do not follow the law anyway. On the other hand, critics argue that the firearms would strongly affect school life through curriculum changes away from controversial topics to subdue anger and possible shooting outbreaks, and that large financial sums would be required in order to fund additional campus security, gun storage units, and enforcement programs to protect student body safety. The funding would have to be taken out of research programs and school projects, which would decrease educational value and prospects for students. While private universities are allowed to opt out of the bill, which the majority did, the public universities are unable to, adding to the dissent against the legislation for underrepresentation. In my opinion, I side with the group against campus carry due to the importance of education and the mission statement of a university.…

Children go to college to learn about education and not to learn how to kill. Guns have become an issue on schools in the past years with some students attacking their own campuses and ending with the lives of students and teachers. The government thinks that the only solution against guns is with more guns. The state governors have not learned the lesson that bringing violence to campuses will cause more violence and more death. The guns are not the solution to end shooting at schools, it will just bring more death and suffering.…
Would Concealed Carry Deter Violence on Campus? How many people do you see every day that carry a gun on them? I am betting that you don’t see anyone besides police officers. If people get into a car crash and the driver was drunk, do we blame the car? No we blame the driver so what’s the different with guns.…
If guns were allowed on campuses it would make students and teachers…
