Question #1, How might CHPL can be utilized by a health care informatics professional who is considering the purchase of an EHR for an ambulatory practice? I was looking at the certification criteria for this vendor and it included all the aspects needed for an electronic health record. I chose this system since we are implementing this system in March, 2016.I know some information about Epic since I am one of the Super user for this system. It contains all patient information demographics, allergies, problem list, and past and present medical information. There is an option for patient communication via in Basket. This system has set up clinical activities including medication administration and clinical notes. Patient billing system is set up in a way that it can capture data in a timely manner. User information is secure with automatic log off. Clinical notes are set up in a way that users can customize accordingly and there is an option to use standardized words or terms. This system allows view, download and an option to transmit 3rd party health records securely between providers. Providers can electronically prescribe medications to patient’s local pharmacy. What I like about this system is that patient specified education resources are available. For example if I need to give teaching about diabetes all I need to type that in the search bar and I can access all the necessary printed documents for my patient education on diabetes. Protecting patient information according to HIPPA is also major concern for implementing the system. Access of the system must be designed according to the user role. Consumers need to be confident to protect data integrity and violators should be held accountable of their actions. EHRs must be designed where there is interoperability between the products of multiple vendors. EHRs must meet regulatory compliance on both Federal and State levels. The key goal of EHR is to lower processing and reimbursement costs that require codes and terminology that are universally accepted on a national basis. HER system is user friendly and no space is needed like paper records. Electronic health record system can be time saving, reduce medical costs and we can provide quality care in a timely manner.
