To effectively implement a contingency plan, four key steps will need to be performed. These steps will create a foundation for the organization to build on. The four steps are obtaining full support of management, assemble a contingency planning management team, performing business impact analysis and the last step is budgeting for contingency operations.
The first activity may seem minimal or can easily be overlooked; however, this is the most critical step is obtaining the full support of the management team and the support of all senior management. This initial step will determine success or failure; and will need to be completed before any other action can be performed. Senior management will be required to approve and implement policies and procedures. Management will need to approve funding to support the contingency plan and budget for additional personnel to implement and support the contingency
