Before the Internet, and even before TV, everyone listened to the radio. Having radio adverts that explained in-depth reasons why a product would improve a consumer’s life was the way to go. When the television was created, marketers recognized a need to create a new way of reaching out to the everyday consumer, thus commercials were introduced. Many television commercials are geared towards the viewers of the show they are advertising during. For instance, the show Big Brother has had controversy surrounding it due to the many distasteful things that happen on it. Many of its advertisers are geared towards the everyday adult with things such as toothpaste and home improvement ads. This example goes to show that outbound marketing is not as cut and dry as one may think. Occasionally the company or show you may be running an ad during may embarrass your brand and force you to find a new venue to use as a marketing outlet. The same can be said with your local newspaper or favorite magazine when it comes to outbound marketing; many advertisers are looking for a certain niche to advertise to the right clientele. An example of this would be if you go to the website for the popular magazine for women called Women’s World, found at www.womensworld.com, you will see a place at the bottom of the page that says “advertise with us” (Women’s World 2016). If you click on the link it will lead you to another website that explains what type of customer the magazine reaches (professional or family oriented women) and shows you how to submit your advertisement (Bauer Publishing 2014). This magazine is one that my mother frequently purchases and I know from looking through hers, many of the advertisements are for different foods such as Betty Crocker cake mixes, Hamburger Helper, and other time saving meals.
