Description of current situation Acreswood surgery Coppull is a general practice located in Coppull, Lancashire. The general practice serves the whole of Coppull as well parts of as its surrounding village of Charnock Richard. The team includes four GPS, and two nurses, healthcare assistant as well as a practice manager, administrative, reception, and ancillary staff. At Coppull Medical Practice, they aim to treat all of their patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence. The practice offers a full general practice service. The opening hours are 8 am – 6:30 pm from Monday – Friday and closed on Saturday/Sunday.

To do this, I am aiming to create an iPhone application that will allow the patients to have a profile. In this profile, they will be able to access their medical record if they are signed up to gain access to it. This will allow them to carry around their medical information so that for example they are hurt on holiday the doctor can access it and see their record etc. However, this would need to be secured because if it got into the wrong hands then it’s a loss of privacy, so fingerprint recognition would be needed and also a password set by the user to access that page along with the login to enter the application. The user would also be able to make appointments with their GP, nurse or healthcare assistant, this would be done by displaying all the times the GP is available and on what date, the user would then select a time of day that is free and a date. This will be done in real time so the GPS calendar will always be up to date. The staff at the front best will then have to confirm the booking or reject, and the user will get a notification telling them this. If it gets confirmed it will be placed on the calendar and on the profile it will show the appointment that is up next so the user can see at a glance without going to the calendar what they have coming up next. One of the main features will be the calendar which will show all upcoming appointments along with previous ones with comments from the GP from the session which will help if you forget what they had told you. On the calendar tab, the user will also see when they are due medications or blood pressure reviews along with injections.
The application will also have the ability to remind the user of their up and coming appointment which will be notifications and reminders on the app its self. The notifications will be sent a day before and also 1 hour before so that they have enough time to realise if they forget.
In the future, the application could expand to also have a sort of expert system, that could advise them on what to do if they suffer from various things along with tips to help them. This system could also let them search for symptoms and see what they might be suffering from and
