La Rochefoucauld’s axiom , “Death and the sun are not to be looked at steadily “
The sun is something that is in our lives regardless of where we are in the world , we don’t always seem to look at it because it will irritate our eyes if we look at it for too long . Death does not hurt our eyes but hurts us in a way where we feel different emotionally .When we see death it creates pain just as the sun would create pain onto our vision. Death is something that happens in life but it’s not talked about often , people choose to avoid any discussion or thoughts of death to avoid sadness or to respect the topic itself. Personally death is something that will happen and we need to be prepared for it , if we choose to accept death and be more

Living in a world where there’s no food left or little hope in humanity makes you accept death . What kept them going from what i believe is “The Fire ’’ . The Fire was a representation of light , without light in themselves they wouldn’t be able to keep pulling forward . The father knew by telling the boy about “the fire’’ there was some hope still left in the cruel world they lived in.The sun is our light , without it we would have to rely on candles and lights , is the sun an unappreciated light in our lives ? We know every single day that we wake up it will be there but what were to happen if the sky suddenly looked gray everyday ?Would we still have “The Fire “ in our own lives . Death was common for the boy because he had always grown up around it, With us we are raised to know what death is and how it happens . Death comes from old age , accidents or from a form of sickness we learn that it’s a natural part of life and we should mourn for the person after they are gone . I believe we should look at death more steadily , if we choose to not talk about it we will be afraid of the thought of it ,We should face it than look away …show more content…
How will we learn to accept death and look at it with a more open view if we’re taught to shine away from it ? Something i enjoyed from this passage was the Doctors open views on teaching young people death . We shouldn’t look at death and become uncomfortable with the fact it will happen to us one day . We cannot rely on this image that we will die in our homes peacefully if we create this illusion of death , we will not be prepared . I believe the Death and the sun should be looked at steadily , we need the sun in our lives and we need death just as much

The topic of death could make any human being thoughtful; it challenges our emotional and intellectual security. One of the mistakes that most of us make is avoiding the topic of death as Ira Byock mentioned in his video entitled Dying Well. When we are unable to discuss the topic, it simply means that we are not ready for it and that we cannot handle it.…

According to Friedrich Nietzsche, “Hope is in truth the worst of all evils, because it protracts the torment of men” (Nietzsche 45). The Road is set in a post-apocalyptic “grey world” where the last remnants of humanity fade away into oblivion. This world is literally “dead”(%^%), life as we know it is over and civilisation is beyond saving. To complicate the situation, however, McCarthy infuses hope into this dystopian world. This creates an illusion of hope where in fact, there is none for the characters in the book.…

Death is a universally scary experience. No one goes through life without having a healhy fear of death at least once. However, this common fear may prove to be completely unnecessary, because death is a natural occurrence in the never ending cycle of life. In his poem “Thanatopsis,” William Cullen Bryant uses characteristics of Romanticism to portray the idea that death should be viewed as a positive experience. He examines the ties between life, death, and nature.…

The Road by Cormac McCarthy is a novel that diverges from the customary standards regarding format of how a novel is written. McCarthy tends to ignore the usage of quotations and apostrophes and also writes in a splintered fashion especially in the beginning of the book adding the tone of minimalistic times. He never reveals the name of the characters and only refers to them as The Boy and The Man as it is written in third person omniscient though it often seems as if the novel was written in first person which adds to the idiosyncrasy of the novel. On the contrary The Road is extremely detail oriented which immensely contributes to the overall theme and tone of the book in addition to putting the reader in the characters shoes. The Road is a fiction piece about a post apocalyptic desolated world centered around a boy and a man trying to fight through constant fear and inhumane…

Do not go gentle into the good night They say what goes up must come down, and just like in life it comes around full circle, knowing there is no way of avoiding the inevitable, there are solely ways to prolong it. In the poem "Do Not Go Gentle Into The Good Night" by Dylan Thomas, he encourages he's readers to prolong the inevitable death, by stating if you are going to die, you might as well die fighting to stay alive, rather than letting death consume you and win. He tells you to prolong this death by fighting back. Through out the poem death and the certainty of death are reoccurring theme that the author and readers have to face. Dealing firstly with the emotions that death brings out in those who are dying.…

In Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’ essay, “On the Fear of Death,” she claims that the more science advances, the more people fear and deny death, and she includes various kinds of evidence to enhance her opinions on death. She describes the changes made in society and how they affect people. She starts with how science has changed the time of death for most people, then moves on to how our unconscious mind deals with death and how types of people deal with death. She finally compares a death in an older society to a death in the modern society. Kubler-Ross begins her essay with describing how science has changed the demographics of death.…

In Edgar Allan Poe’s “ The Masque of the Red Death” the main focus is not on just the party itself but what lies outside of Prince Prospero's abby, the black plague. This was a grave disease that tormented the people of Europe during the 14th Century. It originally came from a bacteria in rats that then would be transferred to humans in the form of a flea bite. Due to the disease being a bacteria once it was in ones system they could easily infect someone else through both the air and bodily fluids, such as sneezing. There are two main types of the plague were septicemic and pneumonic.…

Death Swallowed Up In Victory Everyone is familiar with the theme of death. “According to experience, death is the stopping of a behavior, the stopping of expressive movements and of physiological movements and processes…It is a departure, a decease, a negativity to the unknown…a departure without a return”(Levinas). Regardless of belief, death is the one equalizer common to man. There are countless stories attempting to illustrate or explain both the feeling and the nature of death given many various outcomes, fortunate or unfortunate. Though Zhuangzi’s true thoughts on death (as on many things) are occasionally unclear and apparently contradictory (in some instances, he seems to regard death as something bad that should be avoided and a long, natural life as a positive, as is implied by the stories of Hundun and Crippled Shu [95, 61], while in most others he expresses the more accepting view of death I explore here), one view dominates throughout his work. That view is this: death is an unavoidable part of life, and we therefore should not take great pains to avoid it or worry about the fact that we will die someday (though, if that worry does happen to naturally arise, we should not actively suppress it). In the same way that where there is day there must be night, “where…

But based on what I believe today, I find that death secretly excites me. It is no longer some unknown void that keeps me awake at night, half curious and half afraid – but something to look forward to at the end of a life well-lived. This does not mean that I want to end my own life, because I feel very blessed to be alive with the opportunity to learn and to help others. It also doesn’t mean that I won’t grieve when others die, or that I won’t be afraid as a patient facing imminent death.…

The author of “On Natural Death” by Lewis Thomas begins his essay by being lighthearted about death and progressively gets more into depth with the aspects of death for different living things and whether or not they detect pain. This is to objectify the fact that death is destined for all living things and that it shouldn’t be planned or feared but instead, it should be accepted. The first strategy Lewis Thompson uses is denouncing books about death. Lewis emphasizes that death is becoming planned with there being “so many new books about dying” placed next to “the health diet and home repair paperbacks”. Lewis insinuates that the topic of planned death is considered ordinary to where it’s placed next to everyday topics and accepted by society who doesn’t think twice about it.…
