Creations from Islam that Make our Lives Better Today Many of the things we have today that help us and make our lives better come from Islam. We still use many creations that come from Islam, but we have just improved them to make them more advanced and even better than the original creation. The three greatest advancements that Islam gave to civilization are hospitals, games such as Polo and Chess, and the very well known math skill, algebra. One of the biggest creations that the people from Islam invented was the hospital. Back in the seventh and eighth centuries hospitals were used to perform surgeries on people, just like modern day hospitals. The doctors who worked at the hospital had medicine they could provide people with, obviously over time we have improved our medicines so they can be more strong and effective. Hospitals are very useful and have made our lives better because we don't have to worry about treating ourselves because we have professionals treat us and take care of us. Another reason why a hospital is so handy is because if an emergency were ever to occur, we can just go to a local hospital to get taken care of. …show more content…

These games have made our lives better because they provide entertainment for us and are also a great way to let time pass by. What this means is that a game like Chess, gives our mind power and we truly use it to think deeply while playing the game. Not only can a game like Chess allow our mind to think deeply, but so can math. Math can be a bit challenging to some, but algebra can be even more challenging. Algebra requires a bit more

When someone hears the word Arabs or Islam post 9/11 in America, there wasn’t any sense of danger towards Muslims. Unlike today when the media brings up the religion of Islam, automatically non Muslims think the worst of us. There has become fear to see a man having a full bread, or a woman in hijab. Usually this fear comes from people who know absolutely nothing about this religion and who don’t understand it. I believe that the American press has a big influence on how the country views Muslims and things are only getting worse.…

Humanity has come to evolve and prosper with the aid of medicine. Medieval Islamic Medicine, written by Peter E. Pormann and Emilie Savage-Smith, portrays the causes and effects medicine has on a civilization. The authors focused on two main questions when creating their work: how did Islamic medicine develop and evolve during medieval times and what impact did the development of medieval Islamic medicine have on societies? The authors formulated their arguments around the purpose of the questions. Some problems addressed in the book involve the history of medicine during medieval Islam and the treatment methods of medicine.…

The entire world was impacted with the Islamic civilization. Areas of commerce, technology, medicine, navigation, astronomy, and other scientific areas were touched by the hand of new discoveries brought forth by the learning centers of the Islamic world. The Islamic caliphates had an economy that was flourishing due to the established trade routes. The procession of people trading through the region also spawned the development of technologies, ideas, and spread the religion of Islam across many different cultures. The amount of trade and scholarship not only allowed for immense amounts of wealth, but also urbanized the people together in cities, like Baghdad.…

When the Islamic empire conquered land they worked with what they found, an already formed foundation, “They met peoples with advanced technologies which they adapted to their new culture. They also took over established ideas, skills, and ways of governing and to use them for their own benefit.” Today, many of the things we use are because of the Islamic development that happened from the 750’s to the 1400’s. The Islamic Empire developed in almost every subject possible mathematics, astronomy, sciences, arts, philosophy, music, and more. Eventually the empire relocated the capital to Baghdad, the heart of trade in South West Asia and under the Abassid rule economy flourished, security was stronger, and large armies were at the empire’s side.…

When the of the Nation of Islam is brought up, it is usually associated with being a radical group under the direction of Malcolm X. Do you ever wonder how it all started and what the Nation of Islam really stood for in the early to mid 1900’s? What was it about the Nation that drew thousands of African Americans, in the United States alone, to follow its teachings? What happened to the Nation of Islam and why isn’t it prevalent in today’s society? The Nation of Islam intrigues me because of their different viewpoints, compared to other religions. It is also, in my opinion, a topic that many people misview and misunderstand because they are uneducated to the actual facts of this religion.…

The media portrays me as a terrorist. After 9/11, being Muslim in America meant that you had to live in fear, conceal your faith, or pay the price of retaliation by someone who reacted out of ignorance. It meant you had to constantly apologize for acts of terrorism committed by criminals that use Islam as a banner to progress their vendettas. However, being Muslim also meant that you could learn self-disciple through the five-daily prayers, patience, and tolerance as I tried to understand the reasons why so many Americans feared Muslims. Unfortunately, I did not see the benefit of expressing my faith until I was much older.…

I enjoyed reading your post. I also agree that the textbook did well in explaining what Sufism is and what it entails. I would like to add what I found interesting that was mentioned in the textbook and the web video, which was that Sufism came from the Arabic word suuf, which means wool in English (Bilhartz, 2006, p. 117). The Sufi Muslims wore wool garments to avoid wearing the clothes they considered "worldly clothing". Reading about Sufism made me admire their simpler form of piety and their religious devotion.…

Since its foundation, The United States of America has prided itself in being a sort of “melting pot” of cultures and people. Over time, people from all over the world immigrated to the US. This includes, even today, people of many different faiths. One faith in particular has seen a lot of controversy: Islamism. Especially in light of events like the attacks in the US on September 11, 2001 or even more recent attacks in France and England that are attributed to radical Islamist groups, people who practice the Islamic faith (Muslims) have received a lot of criticism.…

Each religion comes with its own set of rules shaped by the founder and the time it was created. Muhammad was set to be the last prophet that came from God, he created the religion Islam. However, the Hadith did not come until many years later after his death. The Hadith were messages that Muhammad had supposedly said and were used as rules to help shape the way that his followers were supposed to live.
