For anyone who has committed an unlawful sexual act against a minor, according to Arizona State Legislature (2017), A level three offender cannot live within 1000 feet of a school that provides instruction to kids grade kindergatden through 12th or a child care facility (Arizona State Legislature, 2017). And in certain states like Texas the laws can be even stricter. According to The Texas Department of Public Safety (2017), many cities have created a “child safety zone”. This zone keeps child sex offenders from going near or living near such places as schools, parks, kids arcades or anywhere children may visit (The Texas Department of Public Safety, 2017). While the restrictions can make it tough for newly released offenders to find homes, the fact that someone is a sex offender to begin with can make finding a place to stay almost impossible at times. This can cause extra headaches for those supervising sex offenders because of the increasingly added volume of treatment and how closely you must work with treatment providers to ensure that they are taking every step towards being rehabilitated. And on top of all the extra work comes the notion from the general public that, “once a sex offender, always a sex offender”. This common idea coupled with the relitevley high recidivism rate makes the job of community corrections involving sex offenders hard. According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (2016), Sex offenders must go through two different treatment programs after their release. One consisting of 4 months which is used to educate offenders on what they need to do to not do it again. And the other program is 18 months and involves extensive therapy (Texas Department of Criminal Justice, 2016). And during the research done for this topic 18 months was on the shorter end of what I could find. Many states such as wisconson have up to 36 month rehabilitation and some are even higher. And to make the job of community correction officers even more difficult, all of this time being spent towards being rehabilitated will be for nothing if the offender doesn’t complete the program to your liking. According to the Georgia Deparment of Community Supervision (2017),
