Not to mention the knowledge gained of how the Red Cross impacts the needs of people here and abroad with their lines of service, e.g. Services to the Armed Forces. Regarding professional development, this experience has helped formulate taking ownership of a project; being proactive; identifying solutions to unforeseen issues; aligning networks to solicit their expertise in a subject matter that may not be familiar. Speaking to the latter, contacts/resources that I have developed are Disaster Program Managers, Mental Health Services Supervisors, Preparedness and Partnership Managers, community leaders and chairmen and chairwomen. I have also developed a rapport with individuals that hold supervisory positions with Red Cross, e.g. Human Resources, Media/Marketing, etc.
The above-mentioned has allowed my internship experience to be exceptional. Any ideas or interests I expressed were welcomed and fulfilled. As an example: I attended a meeting regarding the next group of students that are scheduled to intern with Red Cross and I suggested that the students complete a “rotation” if you will, of each department within the Metro Atlanta Chapter. So, each student will have to complete at least ten hours of service with several departments other than the one they are assigned to in order to fully experience and appreciate all that Red Cross
