In the first perspective it explains that you, as a person should focus on self improvement and become more self reliant. I honestly think as an opinion you would need to keep boosting people's spirits instead of being self centered because you don't want to make them feel good. Everyone has their own traits, personality, and characteristics, but if you don't care about other people, it shows you that you are careless about the good people on this earth. A strength of the first perspective is that you can get things accomplished and succeed in goals in your lifetime.…

The diverse ways in which critical thinking can be applied are astonishing. One may find themselves in a group project working towards a common goal and an individual would find it immensely helpful to be able to process the ideas or statements and go through steps exploring possible problems, solutions, and meanings. In a professional environment, possessing this skill would demonstrate not only competency, but leadership. In a meeting, one may be asked what one thinks of the ideas that have been discussed and it would serve one well to be able to analytically and intellectually reflect on what has been discussed and arrive at an answer to a problem that one’s peers would comprehend. Possessing the skill of thinking critically is crucial in all parts of life; it is a skill that will be easily noticed and assist one in answering any question that…

Having the ability to use critical thinking in the workplace is just as important as knowing how to use the ability before even having the job. For blue collar workers such as moving men this ability is frequently used. Rose exemplifies this in “Blue Collar Brilliance” by stating, “movers determine how to get an electric range down a flight of stairs require coordination, navigation, planning, and the establishing incremental goals” (252). Just as liberal arts students use critical thinking skills for their education and to prepare for their future careers, after reading this quote one can see that the average blue-collar worker, such as a mover, have learned and use the ability of critical…

As consumers, we perceive our wants and needs, through the media, goods and services, but as a critical thinker we are able to identify and make decisions for ourselves rather than what we think we perceive, need or want. In the text book Think by Boss, she explains that "Information can be distorted by cognitive and social errors such as confirmation bias, probability error, and the “one of us/one of them” error" (Boss, p. 306). If we have a solid foundation of our expectations and standards of our wants and needs, we will not conform to group pressure. I believe…

One valuable tip that I have learned so far is to always remain open-minded without biases. It states in the book that critical reasoning is more concerned with revising our own systems of beliefs than in being critical of other arguers. This for me speaks volumes because you can't go into situations as a know it all because everyone can learn something from anyone. Also learning to break down the arguments into the main point, supporting points, premises and conclusion are very helpful because if you allow emotions to cloud your judgement, you are liable for making misguided or disastrous decisions.…
