The upper middle class world I grew up in was vastly different than the working class world that Lynda Barry and Mike Rose’s mother, Rosie grew up in. I had two parents working white collar jobs; my mom a dental hygienist and my dad a mechanical engineer for Verizon Wireless. I went to a public, regional high school with enough funding to not only offer art and music class, but to offer sub categories of art and music, such as mechanical drawing and various different band classes. It is safe to say the teachers working there didn’t have “poor salaries” and the students who attended, including me, graduated with white collar brilliance. But while I was privileged enough to grow up in this upper middle class world, it wasn’t really me in the upper middle class.…

This includes mannerisms, skills, preferences, interaction styles and knowledge. Bourdieu then went on explaining about the three types of cultural capital: objectified (material possessions), institutionalized (credentials) and embodied (habitus). CLAIMS Unsurprisingly, considering the key figures of British cultural studies, the field was majorly oriented toward political problems. Hoggart, Williams and Hall chose to enter into the educational arena because it “was the social and cultural form in which they saw the possibility of reuniting what had been in their personal histories disrupting: the value of higher education and the persistent educational deprivation of the majority of their own originary [sic] or affiliated class” (“Uses of Culture” 25). The formation of British cultural studies coincided with the break in the European communist movement. Much like Marxism they were chiefly interested in power structures and the forces of domination and resistance. It is a common misconception…

Many people connect French culture with Paris, which is a focal point of architecture, art, and cuisine but life outside of the "City of Lights" is altogether different and varies by region. The word "culture" has the origin from France; France doesn't simply have distinctive cultures. Cristina De Rossi, an anthropologist at Barnet and Southgate College in London, revealed to Live Science: "Culture' gets from a similar French term, which thus gets from the Latin "colere," which means tending to the earth and develop, nurture and cultivation". Based on history, Celtic and Gallo-Roman cultures has always influenced French culture. During the Iron Age and Roman time, France was at first characterized as the western range of Germany known as Rhineland yet it later came to allude to a territory that was known as Gaul.…
