A serious disagreement or argument, either within yourself or with others, is referred to as a conflict. Conflict is a topic that affects millions of people worldwide. Dealing with conflict is extremely difficult, especially if you have a mental or physical disability. The mystery novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, explains a part of teenager, Christopher John Francis Boone’s life as he deals with his behavior problems. Due to some sort of behavior disability (which is never really given a name in the book but which resembles autism), Christopher’s response to conflict is debilitating both mentally and physically. Throughout the novel, Christopher deals with internal and external conflict. While conflict is part of everyone’s life, it is especially troublesome in Christopher’s. Christopher faces many conflicts throughout the story, many of them happen within himself. One example of internal conflict presents itself when Christopher tries to understand facial expressions. As a result of these problems, Christopher has a hard time dealing with conflict, and this often destroys him. He struggles with internal conflicts because of his behavioral issues, but external conflicts with other people also result in him experiencing further internal conflicts. Unfortunately, conflict is something that most everyone will face. Whether it is from loving or losing someone or that something just does not go as planned in school, sports or a job, conflict tends to cause larger issues.
