Dakin Film Analysis

If an individual finds his or her self wishing to uncover truth and identity, it is important for he or she to understand that there is an unfortunate imperfection of human nature. It is human nature to create a positive self-concept and repress the undesired (but often more realistic) traits. In the film, there is evidence that some of the characters struggle with homosexuality.Posner believes his attraction to Dakin is just a phase that will eventually pass, and he hopes it will pass because he is uncomfortable with the thought. Irwin is also attracted to Dakin. Both of these characters wish to repress these thoughts because they do not fit in with social norms; it makes them feel lonely and separated from society. The truth about each and every person is often hard to accept, and people would rather forget the truth than acknowledge it. Uncovering these truths and accepting them is a hard reality to face, but it is more noble and beneficial to society. Often times the truths humans like to forget are the same among everyone and confessing whatever it may be to the world will help open the eyes of others to do the same.
Now truth is merely one part of the human experience because that is just thought. Moreover, humans are able to do much more than ponder over their own existence. The interaction with countless human constructions creates an infinite amount of differing experiences, and humans feel the need to share theirs with each other. Sadly, the best way to communicate these experiences is through another human construction called language.
