Dayana Acevedo is a small town girl from Lahaina, Maui and a graduate of Lahainaluna High School. Born in the state of California, and moved to Hawaii at the age of three. Her life was not just sunshine and rainbows. She is a daughter of two immigrants from Mexico. To get to college it took hard work, determination and independence. She was extremely fierce and committed to prove people wrong. She did not self pity herself, instead she found ways to get out of tough situations. Her skinny jeans, and converse may lead you to thinking she is a basic teenager, but that is not true, she is unique in so many ways! I mean I have never done any of that till now I guess it is a learning process, you learn how to cope with it has time goes on.” If Dayana had a second chance to change something in her college experience, she explained she would “Wait till I simply had enough money to pay for it” she said that with irritation in her voice. I asked Dayana if she was accredited enough when she got accepted to college and she responded with “ I think I was I mean, my parents were proud of me, I wanted to be a good example to my younger sister. No one in my primary family had ever attended a single class I am sure they were excited and proud of me” In conclusion on account of all the obstacles Dayana faced, she does not regret going to college.
