Scrubs and a Cape There are 3,966,939 people in the U.S. that give up time with their family to help others everyday. According to Dictionary.com a nurse is described as someone who gives medical attention to a sick person. Much like the definition of a mom is the person who gives birth to you, but is this all they do? Stop and think about everything your mother has done for you in your life. A mother does so much more than just give birth, for 135,000 children each year their “mom” never gave birth to them but is still their mother. So, if such a simple definition, cannot even begin to describe who a mom is and what she does for you, how can such a simple definition explain everything a nurse does for you and the rest of their patients each and every day?

Can you imagine taking care of sick patients everyday; cleaning them, feeding them, giving them medication and tending to their every need, a person you have never met before? A nurse takes care of hundreds of different people every week and then goes home to take care of their own family. However, you never hear a nurse complain about taking care of you, about helping you, they just do it. Many can say it is just their job, well a teacher’s job is to teach, and teaching could simply be throwing up directions or definitions on the board, teachers don't have to help you and walk you through step by step, they do not have to be kind, they do not have to stay after school and do one on one lessons but they do all these things out of the kindness of their hearts, because they want you to succeed. Much like every nurse goes above and beyond to ensure the wellbeing of their patients in order to ensure they succeed in continuing to improve their
