I am certain my academic studies and extra-curricular activities will benefit me in the long run as well as contribute to my lifetime goal of becoming a dentist.
Firstly, I began taking a medical terminology class with my mentor, Mrs. Salas, who offered insightful information about dentistry and gave after school classes to teach students the basics of becoming dental assistants. After seeing my interest in dentistry, she then asked if I would be interested in joining the dental club that she organized. The dental club meets several times a week to learn extra information about dentistry and we get to familiarize ourselves with various instruments, how to treat patients, and where to indicate particular complications on teeth. Another activity the dental club provides is practicing examining one another’s teeth on actual dental chairs, as real dentist do. The teacher tests us on how we correctly preform the steps of the procedure, by first carefully sterilizing our hands, then placing the proper gloves and eyewear, and finally inspecting the “patient” of resigns or decay.
