Depression Therapy

Depression affects more than 15 million Americans over the age of 18 every year, that is approximately 6.7 percent of the United States population. Depression is life changing and often times people who suffer from depression struggle to continue their lives normally. Depression is a common mental health illness that many people throughout the world experience and can be found in several popular novels. For instance, in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dr. Jekyll seemed to fall into a depression once the medication he used to limit Mr. Hyde failed to work. A person’s physical health is just as important as their mental health or emotional health, regardless of what may people may think. “We are created to think, feel, behave, and pray in such a way that our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and spiritual lives are all intertwined” (Klewicki 22). Your body is like a machine. Although it has many different parts and all have their own purposes, the body has a whole cannot function to its full potential when one part is abnormal and failing to operate as intended. Therapy is intended to heal the wounds at the source. However, while taking medication, depression may subside, but other side effects may occur. Some of the several side effects that come along with taking antidepressants include headaches, joint pain, sleep disturbance, weight gain, hair loss, and anxiety. Sleep disturbance can be a symptom of depression and antidepressants will not stop that, but rather worsen the irregular sleep patterns. Physical appearance is very important in many people’s lives and they may feel bad or ashamed of themselves if they fail to perfect a certain image. How a person sees themself can affect their views on themselves, which can change their mental and/or emotional well
