I run towards my friend and catch her as she jumps into my arms, and I spin her around before setting her back on the ground. I high five the rest of my team and they hit me on the helmet with their sticks. We walk back to our bench and do our cheer. “Good game -team name-, thank you officials, WE LOVE YOU FANS!” Following the suit of the other team, we line up and go through the line, saying “Good game, good game, good game…” I walk back over to the bench and take off my helmet and chest pad, keeping on the clunky shin and foot pads for now; I’ll wait until I’m back to the locker room to take those off. I slowly walk back to the locker room, and open the door and see my team taking off their gear. They all have tired smiles on their face; I do too. We played a great game. I walk into the corner and unceremoniously drop my stuff in the general area of my gear bag. Now to go home and do homework before falling asleep the second my head hits the pillow.
The next day at practice, the entire team is happy. And when the team is happy, we usually have fun practices. My team is wonderful. One of my favorite parts of field hockey is getting to know my team each year. Some of them I’ll already know because they’re in my grade, but in others case, it might be the first time I’m meeting them. No matter what, it seems we all make bonds with each other that last long after the season is over. After spending
