Desmond Doss: A True Hero

Desmond Doss shows he’s a hero for his heroic action in Okinawa. Doss is man from lynchburg, Virginia (west). His mother raised him as a devout seventh day adventist. Desmond Doss deserves the status of a hero because he saved 75 men, never touched a gun and never gave up.
Desmond Doss shows that he is a hero when he saved 75 men (American and Japanese). When he was in the battlefield the Japanese attacked his 77th Infantry by surprise. Instead of fleeing. He would lower them one-by-one with a rope and after he lowered one he would pray “Lord, please help me get one more”(http://www militarytimes.com). He would lower them from a 30-50 foot cliff (http://www militarytimes.com). Saving 75 people’s lives especially in extremely in danger situation proves that you are a hero. After the war he was given the highest medal of war.

When he would pray his fellow soldiers would throw shoes at him (http://articles.latimes.com). They would make Doss and his infantry do extra training because of Doss(http://www.npr.org). In result from the extra training most of his infantry would physically hurt him (http://www.npr.org). From lowering all the soldiers his hands were all bloody from the rope and he would treat the wound wait five hour then go back(http://articles.latimes.com). All of the things that he has gone through. He never quit and all of those people from his infantry would thank him for saving their life. They would say “He was one of the bravest persons alive”(http://www.npr.org). From all of what he has gone through it clearly shows that he is a brave man not giving up.
After saving 75 men, never touching a gun, and never giving up. It’s easy to see that Desmond Doss is a hero. Especially since he received the highest medal of honor medal. If he had retreated most of his infantry would have been dead. So because of him most of them got to go
