Illustrations in the text help children understand more about the situation that is being described and explained throughout the story by adding meaning and complimenting the words. (Medwell, J. Et Al. 2007) In Something Else every page is composed of a large illustration with lots of extra details included in them that are not discussed in the text. Children will have to take time looking over all the pictures which means they will become more immersed in the story and better understand the finer concepts that are included within the text. Et Al. 2007 explains that the best books for children have characters that are so well described that the children feel a connection to them, some even feel like they relate to the character.
