The purpose of the information in The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is used to provide information to the general public whereas the information in the National Diabetes Education Initiative (NDEI) is geared towards the healthcare provider. In the ADA’s website, the primary audiences are people who have diabetes, recently diagnosed or at risk of getting diabetes. The secondary audience may include students, health professionals and people who have family members who have diabetes and wanting information on how to help them. The ADA’s website is filled with variety of information which tries to answer all the questions a person dealing with diabetes would ask. When clicking on to the ADA’s website, a full page pops up with lots of pictures and color that draws in the reader. On the website, pictures of many different types of people appear on the homepage. There is a map of US with people of different ethnicity, color, age, and gender. It tries to connect with all people and sends the message that diabetes has no boundaries and can affect people from all different backgrounds. The website also connects with the Spanish speaking population as the website is easily translated into Spanish. In connecting with the audience, the website sets an informal tone by showing empathy with the struggles the person faces when dealing with diabetes. For instance, in section that talks about living with diabetes, the stories are relatable to an everyday person who is living with diabetes. It connects with the primary audience by acknowledging the same struggles they face. Also, the ads displayed on the website are related to providing more help with diabetes such as diabetic magazines, recipes and fitness programs. It is designed to provide other resources that are available that might help them with diabetes.
