In South Dakota they faced the first incident with the Sioux Indians. Some shots were fired, but fortunately no serious violence happened. Nevertheless, Lewis and Clark recognized that they had a long way to go and many more Indian tribes to face. They realized t hat they needed an interpreter to help them handle future problems. While they were at the Mandan village, they received some visitors and one of these was Toussaint (Sacajawea's husband). Charbonneau, able to communicate with most of the region's Native Americans, and he offered his services as an interpreter. The boat failed on its side for a while, and many supplies fell out. Though, Sacajawea's quick reaction saved many of the supplies and items from the water while many of the men panicked (the documentary gives a great and vivid illustration about this). Thanks God that Sacajawea was with them Lewis and Clark would’ve lost a lot of important articles.
