I think that as you obtain an education higher than a high school diploma black men are opened to a world that they have never seen before. They don’t have to resort to violence to get heard, instead they can now express themselves as the educated human that they are. I think that most people don’t realize that a lot of African Americans are really successful in today’s world. The old stereo types of not being educated, illiterate, and a job is ancient…

The job market is crashing, not allowing many to hold a job that they desire. I was unaware that not only the amount of jobs available crashed, but also the starting salaries of these jobs. I feel that this poses a great issue to new graduates, as also the cost of a formal education has escalated significantly in the past decade. I also never noticed that the fact that many college graduates obtain jobs that do not even require a college education is an issue; this reduces the amount of available jobs for those that do not hold a college degree. This causes the majority of the young population to have either no job, or a job that is not up to their education.…

Eventually it will become difficult because you’re trying to balance getting an education with proving that you are black, and not just a white person with a black face. I think that the author’s target audience was towards black ghetto males who try to act their own race. The problem addressed in this situation is that black males are not successful because they trying to uphold their racial identity by being ghetto, own made handshakes, or getting girls. They don’t want to be educated because deeply they feel that their racial identity is being stripped, and they don’t want to be considered a, “homosexual”. The author’s tone is very passionate because he wants black males to be educated and obtain degrees.…

In turn, it hinders their opportunities, their development of their sense of self, their self-esteem, their education, their sense of agency, ambition. It hinders them by manipulating them into self-handicapping their potential, and therefore their future. African Americans struggle immensely with high school dropout rates, and even if those are overcome, they are met with obstacle after obstacle in their journey towards higher education and beyond. It can be hard to maintain hope and hard work with so many discouraging norms set up against a single solitary person. However, there is hope through change.…

Also, while the unemployment rate for people without college degrees is 7.5%, the rate for those with a college degree is only 4% (The Massive Difference In Unemployment Between Those Who Do And Don't Have A College Degree). (5) On the other hand, many are pointing out the amount of jobless individuals with college education; however, the wealth of unemployed college educated citizens has mainly to do with the fact that the U.S. is still recovering from the 2008 “Great Recession”. To do so, I propose creating a network of mentoring programs creating by the Ron Brown Scholar organization, that go out and bridge the gap between African American youth, and academic success. Many may argue this point by stating the old phrase “the road is wide but the path is narrow”, however, I cannot agree with the ideology when I know that students just like myself are given an half rate education just because of where they live, and the tax code that follows. I am first a child of God, and then I am a black man:I know the world of systemic racism that lies ahead for me and everyone with similar skin tones. So how can I sit back and let crony capitalist institutions like the SAT, and ACT which offer 9000 dollar test prep courses that guarantee high scores, prevent my people for excelling? In 2015 alone the average ACT score for black students was 17.1 compared to the national average of 21.…

From the day we start school, it is drilled into our brain that college is the only way to have a good future, but that may not be the case at all. Just ask Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg. Although it helps to have a revolutionary idea like these men, it is not necessary. Ordinary people can also achieve success without a college degree. At least, that’s what Charles Murray in his article “Are Too Many People Going to College?”…

If they can not find a job they are left with a huge debt to pay and no way of paying it. “Almost 12 percent of Americans under age 25 are unemployed. That 's substantially higher than the overall unemployment rate of 7.8 percent, and it amounts to nearly 6.5 million young people who are neither in the workforce nor in school.” (Smith).…

Is College Worth the Cost? At some point in the life of nearly every American there is a choice to be made about whether or not college is worth the time and money. More and more people are beginning to question if college really is worth the cost due to record levels of unemployment for college graduates. Personally, I believe that the amount of time and money spent on a college education is worth it and has great returns that are not only measured in monetary value.…

In “Should Everyone Go to College,” Owen and Sawhill states that college allows students who graduate to earn a higher rate of income; however, various factors should be considered before choosing a degree. Moreover, the authors clarify that while the value of college outweighs the costs associated with earning a degree, just any college degree is not the best investment one could make to ensure the completion and success of their education. The authors also explain that the value of college can outweigh the costs associated with completing a degree. Owen and Sawhill emphasized that college improves certain values, such as job satisfaction and overall well-being, while also improving equally-as-important more monetary values such as graduates’…

In the essay “ When does education stop?” by James Michener , Michener makes the opinion in the essay that education will never stop, and that college will not give the average person the proper education needed. Michener’s essay is very agreeable and persuasive. One of the first points Michener makes is that work takes deduction. In Michener’s essay he stated that “Responsible men and women leap to the challenge of jobs that require enormous dedication and years to fulfil.” This statement is true, because men and women challenge themselves to challenges that take dedication and hard work.…
