Once George moved away from home across the country to California, where drug use was most prominent than Boston, he and his best friend, Tuna, decided to take the easy road of making a rich living by selling marijuana. When the idea was first proposed by Tuna, George was recluenent, however it only took an instant after Tuna explained the fast and easy money they will make by engaging in drug sell. Here, George was evaluating the costs and benefits of the crime as proposed in the rational choice theory. George at first thought how ridiculous the idea of drug selling would be, perhaps due to its costs it will bring, getting arrested quickly and serving time in prison, however, once the benefits were spoken about, George soon thought of an idea that will lower the risk of getting caught, which was to sell it in his hometown where marijuana was not as common. However, what it lacks is how an offender decides to continue committing a certain crime even after they have withstanded the costs. In this movie, George has been caught multiple times and served time in prison, however, every single time he was released he managed to come back to smuggling drugs to get its benefits, that is great amounts of money. Showing how once the costs have been experienced by the offender, the offender will no longer fear them but simply expect them. Movies have a powerful platform, in which they can capture the attention of a big audience and send messages through their films, which many take into consideration. Regarding crime, although movies themselves do not socially construct crime, they definitely help portray certain individuals with certain crimes, which contributes to how society has been socially constructing crime. Movies in this case help as a support to make the audience believe what crimes are horrid, and which ones are misdemeanor, thus although they do not actively construct crime they do indeed contribute to the promotion of
