Color, feelings, choices, and even pain are what is significant to human life. This is what Jonas realizes his community doesn’t have in The Giver by Lois Lowry. When Jonas is chosen to be the Receiver of Memories in his community, he is forced to endure the memories of the past that are transmitted to him by the Giver. He soon learns things that his community had had to sacrifice such as pain and love in order to make a “perfect” society. Through this journey, Jonas’ grows tremendously as he learns more about the past making him a “dynamic” character. You start to see this through his actions and opinions about his community.
