Consequently, this holds back the thought to give so a fair education for all is impossible. Although this remains a popular theory, discrimination can range from a young age all the way to college. School systems collect 96% of their money through property taxes. (Fisher 320) The people work hard for their money, and in return deserve a good education for their child. While some may believe this is true, the ability to pay for excellent school, and even more pay for a house that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, seems impossible. Because of this, the community wealth around the independent schools holds crucial for the quality of education. If someone owns a house that is worth five times more than one in a poorer neighbor hood, the taxes produced create a large budget. The Survey of Income and Program Participation reported only 45 percent of African Americans were homeowners, compared to the 73 percent of the white community. Simply looking at the dramatic different in percentages between races, the relevance of why education is not equal for all is clear. Statistically, houses with both spouses living under the roof bring in more income, allowing the combination of wealth and finally the ability to provide for children completely. People take for granted the access to cars, but while one in four African American homes do not have one at all, this should not be reality.
