Even though many people think ancient Egyptian culture doesn’t have an effect on today’s world, we still practice things that the Ancient Egyptians set rules and guidelines for which includes the impact todays religion, sports, and other cultural advancements. New discoveries every year, keep people interested in the culture. The dynastic period started with the reign of Egypt’s first king, Narmer, in approximately 3100 BCE, and ended with the death of Cleopatra VII in 30 BCE. They are famous for their iconic monuments such as the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, the Abu Simbel, and other well-known monuments. The well-known writing system that they used (Egyptian Hieroglyphs) is still currently being translated hard to translate.

The Egyptians had over 2000 Gods, Goddesses, and Deities for every aspect of their lives. Some well-known gods and goddesses such as Ra, Isis, and Horus are still, in some religions, worshiped. Ra was known as the “Sun God” and is considered the most important god of the Ancient Egyptians. His appearance was a human body with hawk head wearing a headdress with a sun disk on his head. They believed that every day he was swallowed by the sky goddess Nut when the sun went down. Then being reborn in the morning as the sun rose. The also believed that he travelled through the underworld at night where he appeared as a man with a ram head. Today there are some religions that still believe that Ra is the Sun God and is still the creator of the earth and all life. The Goddess Isis was known as the “Protective Goddess” and used powerful magic spells to help those in need. Her appearance was a woman with a headdress in the shape of a throne with cow horns and a sun disk in the middle. She was the mother of Horus, and because all the Pharaohs were considered the “Living Horus”, she was a very important goddess. She is also worshiped by religions today, such as the Pagan religion. Horus (The One Far Above) was the god of the sky. He was well-known as the protector of the ruler of Egypt. Horus’s father (Osiris) was murdered by his brother Seth. He fought Seth for the throne, and during this fight, he lost his eye. His eye was then restored to him and he was chosen to become the ruler of the world of the living.
