Elizabeth Barrett Browning
The exciting life of Elizabeth Barrett Browning consisted of many struggles beginning with her childhood all through the time that she passed away. Best known for her poetry, some of her most prominent influences included John Milton and William Shakespeare. From a young age, she was advanced in reading and writing, completing her first book at age twelve (Biography.com Editors). The life and work of Elizabeth Barrett Browning were characterized by her unique education, suppressed lifestyle, and religious devotion.

This work is a collection of forty four love poems that she wrote about her husband during the times that their relationship was secret (Biography.com Editors). The line “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.”from Sonnet number 43 made her career more famous (Biography.com Editors). Here is a few lines from Sonnet number 43 “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways./ I love thee to the depth and the breadth and height/ My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight/ For the ends of being and ideal grace./ I love thee to the level of every day’s/ Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.” - Elizabeth Barrett Browning (Biography.com Editors). Some things that were going on in her time period were things such as: Industrialization and slavery to name just a couple. In the time of Elizabeth Barrett Browning it was uncommon and frowned upon for men and women to show affection for one another publicly. Again she was most known for her poetry and her religious devotion shown in her writing all through her adulthood. She overcame many obstacles and jumped over them one by one leaving them in the dust behind her. She was and still is loved and admired by many people some who may even follow in her footsteps as a poet. Born in 1806 she had many things against her such as the lifestyle of people around her having formal education which she did not get the privilege of having and not being able to have a normal relationship with the man that she loved and wanted to marry and soon did Robert Browning.
