While writing her poems, Dickinson got really lonely. hen she sent her poems to Thomas Wentworth Higginson, however, just the communication with him saved her life. When Emily Dickinson’s dad died it made her more open about herself (Habegger). Because Dickinson’s poems were about her thoughts and feelings, many of them expressed passion, love, despair and dread (Eberwein).
