Emotions And Mood In The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe

Poe uses negative emotions or moods throughout the poem. An example of this is, ¨...while I pondered weak and weary...¨ (line 1). [E:Quote] Poe uses ¨weak¨ and ¨weary¨ to describe that he is in deep sorrow for the loss of his loved one. [D:Paraphrase] Another example is, “Darkness there, and nothing more” (line 4).[E:Quote] By saying this it makes the protagonist realize that no one is there for him, the death of Lenore drove him to a state of deep depression.[D:Paraphrase]Also, “...thing of evil…” (line 91) is another example of negative emotions.[E:Quote] From the ravens response of “nevermore” it drives the protagonist in madness and calls the bird evil.
